PRE- PRODUCTION |
This phase of development includes the steps outlined on the home page. The goals of the site, the audience the site is intended to reach, and agreement on the development process, together form the platform on which the following pre-production design elements should be constructed: |
Content -
Deciding what information is to be on the site, and how it will be organized usually requires a meeting, or series of meetings. This also includes gathering, and organizing the information, and any collateral that is deemed useful in the presentation of the information. Other content such as live media, forms, searches, shopping carts etc. should also be included at this stage. |

- Gathering of collateral
- Organization of data

Interface approval -
What is the general look and feel of the site to be? Templates from different sources may be viewed, or current sites of interest on the web, to help arrive at an acceptable graphical user interface for the site. |
Navigation -
The design of a site navigation system requires that you make the content of the site accessable to your visitors in the most direct and easily understood way. You can accomplish this by mapping, or storyboarding, the content, and arranging the links, and menu systems to reflect the picture of the site's architecture that results. Whatever method you choose, the final goal of any good site navigation system is to insure that the site's users know where they are, and where they are able to go, at all times. The site should also be capable of allowing visitors to bookmark pages of interest, and show page titles clearly, and succinctly in the bookmarks, and the viewing browser's navigation menu. |
Technical requirements -
Your scripting and program requirements will be closely linked to the type of content you have chosen for your site. Now is the time to make choices as to which applications are needed to facilitate your content, and finalize the range, and type, of interactive services to be implemented, or outsourced on the site. |
