POST PRODUCTION |
A web site is like a garden it needs care, and special attention if it is to flourish. The Post Production phase represents the ongoing life of the site, it's response to changing audience conditions, and it's adaptation to any new directions that would better serve it's original or revised goals. The following three areas are key to the ongoing operation of a web site once it has been launched. | |
1. Maintenance - Is your site still working properly? Many tools are available, both on and off line, that can be used for routine maintenance of your web site. Keeping the content current, and accurate is important. Your site's credibility soon vanishes as a result of stale links, typographic errors, and out of date references. You should also have some method of keeping track of your visitors, know their online profiles and preferences in usage of your site. |
- Link Validation
- Content Updating
- Traffic Analysis
- Forms Management
|
|
2. Promotions -
Unfortunately, "Build it, and they will come!" does not apply to web sites. You must use both on and off line methods to index your site with the public. Some search engine spiders do glean the net, and add references to your web site to their databases, but they, as well as search engines, count on your page's Meta Tags for key words, and content descriptions. |

2. Site Upgrades -
The following site management strategies will make upgrading your site much easier, and faster, if applied early in development. |
- Have a site style guide
- Use logical file names
- Comment tags on code
- Site back up archive
