WEB SITE DESIGN

Electropage is the web site design component of Paradym's Website Services Network Paradym.net. A general outline of the design, and development process, for a website project is covered on this site inspired by the Web site planning, production, and design booklet included in Molly E. Holzschlag's book Using HTML 4, Sixth Edition.

When beginning a web site project, or any form of interactive project, it is important that the following three steps are taken:

1. Project Goals - Agree on the projects intent, and goals with all parties concerned. The projects purpose should be well defined, and clearly indicated by the site, otherwise users will be confused, and leave the site quickly. The more specific you can be about the site's function the more specific the elements of design can be in achieving the desired results.

2. Target Audience - You should identify who your target audience is. The more aware you are of who you are trying to reach the better! The following are a few of the methods commonly used in obtaining market intelligence.

  • Focus groups
  • Study statistcs
  • Feedback from surveys
  • Online Research

3. Development - The development process for a website can be roughly modeled on the film, and television, production cycle, with a greater emphasis on Television, because it can be a live medium, and it's products can be interactive, as in Phone-In programs. See the following sections for a discussion of each stage of production.
